The Climate Policy Group at Students for Sustainable Stanford is dedicated to uplifting student led sustainability initiatives. Our group is currently collaborating with the Office of Sustainability to enhance Stanford's Climate Action Plan this academic year. Our mission is to align the university's plan with student demands and the latest sustainable practices, ensuring Stanford remains a leader in environmental responsibility. Through student-institution collaboration, innovation, and shared commitment, we aim to cultivate a more sustainable and resilient future for Stanford University.
Key Initiatives
• Energy: Electrify Stanford’s Central Energy Facility, advance Net-Zero Target to 2040, and include Investment Scope 3 Emissions in reporting.
• Water: Implement Greywater Systems, reduce landscaping water consumption, explore Xeriscaping, and address water leaks.
• Education: Introduce an environmental sustainability course requirement to bridge educational gaps.
• Land Use: Optimize land for sustainability initiatives.
• Waste: Implement a Student Events Food Waste Plan, place proper recycling bins near package centers, and add plastic film and bag recycling bins on campus.
• Investment: Advocate for 50%+ Stanford Fund Investments in carbon-neutral or sustainable options.
Goals

• Facilitate the establishment of a Stanford Student Sustainability Advisory Council to provide ongoing student input outside of Climate Action Plan revision years.
